Are You Struggling with an Expiring PGWP?

  • Is your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) set to expire within the next 3-6 months?

  • Is your Express Entry CRS score close to the latest cut-off, but your work permit is running out of time?

At Admission Hub, we understand the challenges you’re facing. Don’t let your PGWP expiration halt your Canadian journey. Explore three effective strategies to maintain your legal status and keep working in Canada while working towards Permanent Residency (PR).

Admission Hub helped +3,000 visitors from over 29 countries change their extend their stay inside Canada. You can get your study permit within a month.

Option #1 – Convert Visitor Visa

The first thing you can do is apply for a visitor visa. This will allow you to remain in Canada legally Keep in mind, though, that while on a visitor visa, you CANNOT work. If you are currently working for an employer, meaning you have to leave your employment .

Option 2: Transition from a Work Permit to a Study Permit by Enrolling in a Private College

Second option is to transition from your Post-Graduation Work Permit to a Study Permit by enrolling in a private college. This is a good option if you want to continue working in Canada and strengthening your eligibility for permanent residence.

Who Should Consider This Option? This option is ideal for those who want to stay in Canada and increase their qualifications or improve their Express Entry CRS score. Additionally, if you want to gain new skills or credentials that make you more competitive in the Canadian job market, this can be a great route to take.

Why Convert Your Work Permit to a Study Permit? By converting your Work Permit to a Study Permit, you maintain legal status in Canada and can continue working. While studying, you are allowed to work up to 24 hours a week during semesters and full-time during breaks or 40 hours every week, which still gives you the opportunity to earn income. Some programs even offer flexible online options, allowing you to balance study and work more efficiently.

Processing Time The processing time for a Study Permit application can vary, but it’s typically quicker than applying for a new work permit.

No Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) Needed You won’t need a Post-Acceptance Letter (PAL) to start this process. Additionally, many private colleges offer accessible payment plans for tuition, which can start as low as $6,000, making this an affordable way to stay in Canada.

Proven Success At Admission Hub, we have successfully helped over 100 clients transition from a Work Permit to a Study Permit, with many of them eventually securing Permanent Residency.

Option #3 – Apply for a New Work Permit Through LMIA

Last and final option, you can apply for a new work permit through an employer that is willing to sponsor you for an LMIA.

If you’ve already connected with a Canadian employer during your PGWP, or find one willing to hire you, they can help you apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). With this, you can transition to a closed work permit, allowing you to continue working in Canada legally.

The key here is to find an employer who is willing to go through the LMIA process, which proves there is a need for hiring you and that no Canadians are available for the job. However, keep in mind with the latest IRCC new policy, if your position is on a  low wage stream, you will be more likely to be rejected by ESDC for LMIA.

So, there you have it! If your PGWP is expiring, you’re not out of options. Whether you choose to convert to a Visitor Visa, apply for a new work permit through LMIA, or switch to a Study Permit, there are pathways available to work legally in Canada.
